Strat-Wise: When Data Destroys Value
This article hits on the head a common issue in the business world. Our ability to create and process data far exceeds are ability to create strategic value of that same data. Further both IT and the Business think it should be the others responsibility to make sense of the vast pools of information that flow from our data centers, applications, and processes.
The solution lies in making sure we don't use the GIGO methodology. Just because we can measure and record something does not necessarily mean we should. We must be smart enough to understand and trust the data we do record so that we can best use the regurgitated information in a meaningful manner.

Anchors II Course with Jeremy & Shannon - Devils Lake Climbing Guides
I have a friend at work that loves to go climbing. We recently spoke of our recent adventures out west. I and my family went to central Oregon and their family went to Colorado. Central Oregon is fantastic btw, great for families. You can bike, raft, climb, hike, go spelunking, and end the day drinking some of the finest craft micro brew in the world. She mentioned she loves to climb and just went to Wisconsin to do a little climbing. They hired a guide and off they went. Here is the Guide's blog about their little day adventure.

Social Media's Productivity Payoff - James Manyika, Michael Chui, and Hugo Sarrazin - Harvard Business Review
A great article about the benefits of social media. Not only do social media sites suck people in and take up their time, they actually become more productive in ways that we did not realize.

DIY: front O2 sensor on 02 WRX
So I picked up a new toy from UltraGauge a week ago. I have a car that supports OBD2 output, but does not have a display in the dash that gives me all the cool info that today's late model vehicles do. I focus mostly on the MPG average and MPG instantaneous info, but there are 60 some fields reported. This little $70 unit will plug into your port and give you the ability to view tons of information about your car. It is a great unit for the money and I recommend getting one if you are looking to view real time information from your car. I found out that I had a bad O2 sensor from an error code that the unit pulled. So I ordered a new O2 sensor and plan on getting my hands dirty in the very near future.

Percolator, Dremel and Pregel: Alternatives to Hadoop - Data Science Central
I have been spending a lot of time discussing and working to implement a Hadoop cluster with my team mates at work. I agree that Hadoop is not the cure all for our collective data needs. It is a great tool but has it challenges when working with dynamic data sets. Vince Granville discusses alternative technologies that can consume data in a faster ecosystem.
